Folklore from central java

Once upon a time,not far from a jungle,lived a husband and wife.They were farmers.They were diligent farmers and always worked hard on the paddy fields.They had been married for many years and still had not have a child yet.

Everyday they prayed and prayed for a child. One night, while they were prating,a giant passed their house. The giant heard their pray.

“Don’t wory farmers.I can give you a child.But ,you have to give me that child when she is 17 years old,” said the giant. The farmers were so happy. They did not think about the risk of losing their child later and agreed to take the offer.

Water,the giant gave them a bunch of cucumber seeds.The farmers planted the carefully.Then,the seeds changed into plants.

Not long after that, abig golden cucumber grew from the plant.After it had ripe,the farmers picked and cut it.They were very surprised to see a beautiful baby girl inside the cucumber.Theyu named her Timun Emas or Golden Cucumber.

Years passed by and Timun Emas has changed into a beautiful guirl.On her 17^th birthday,Timun Emas was very happy.However,the parents were very sad.They knew they had to keep their promise to the giant but they also did not want to lose their beloved daughter.

“My dugther,take this bag.It can save you from the giant”,.SAID THE FATHER.Timun Mas away.

“What doyou mean,Father?I don’t understand,”said Timun Emas.

Rigth after that,the giat came into their house.

“Run,Timun Emas.Save your life!”said the mother.

The giant was angry Heknew the farmers wanted to break their promise.He chased Timun Mas away.

The giant was getting closer and closer.Timun Mas then opened the bag and threw some chilly.It became a jungle with trees.The trees had sharp thorns so they hurt the giant.How ever,the giant was still able to chase Timun Mas.

Timun Mas took her third magic stuff.It was cucumber seeds.She threw them and became a cucumber field.But,the giant still could escepa from the field.

Then it was the last magic stuff.she had in the bag.It was shrimppaste,terasi.She threw it and it became a big swamp.The giant was still trying to swim the swamp but he was very tired.Then,he was drowned and died.

Timun Mas then immediately went home.The farmers were so happy that they finally were together again.

Ingredients:

-1 pcs noodle

-a carrot (chop up little by little)

-2 eggs

-1 tablespoon of salt

-400 ml of water

-6 spoons oil to frying

Materials:

-a bowl

-a fork

-a frying pan

-a pan

-a plate

How to make ” darmi ”

-First, boil water in a pan.

-Add noodle into a pan, stir slowly for 3 minutes.

-While the noodle is being cooked, put the seasoning ,salt, carrot and eggs in a bowl. Stir until mix.

-Then, take the cooked noodle from the boiling water and drain it.

-After that, put the cooked noodle into the bowl with seasoning, salt, carrot add eggs, mix well.

-Next, put the oil into the frying pan ,warming it.

-Then ,put the cooked noodle with other ingredients into the frying pan,fry it like an Arabian pastry (martabak) wait for 3 minutes until ripe.

-Finally, take it and put it in a plate.

-Darmi is ready to be served.

Serveds for 2-3 portions.
